Named in honor of his beloved mother, Gail Wines is the project of ex-Boston sommelier Dan O’Brien, who is dedicated to exploring the vineyards and varietals of the historic Sonoma Valley AVA.
While Dan was working as general manager at Larkmead Vineyards in 2013, he bootstrapped the funds for a few tons of Cabernet Franc and made his first wine. Since, he has expanded production, but the operation is still small volume and hands-on.
Fermentations are spontaneous, and barrels age sur lie without movement or manipulation. Dan’s mission is to produce wines that best demonstrate the purity of land they find in Sonoma Valley. The labels are inspired by Gail’s love of watercolor, each stamped with a hummingbird in her memory. Dan also produces table wines under his Doris label, which are in memory of his great Aunt. A nod, if you will, to Dan’s favorite European table wines.
Gail Wines is truly an exciting boutique winery, and the future looks bright for these interesting wines.
