Perched on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna, on the island of Sicily, the Murgo winery sits at over 1600 feet above sea level. The winery is a product of the Scammacca family’s century-long history as farmers on Mount Etna.
In 1981, diplomat Baron Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo converted the ancient family property into an agricultural estate, which today comprises 30 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards on dark, volcanic soils. Emanuele’s eight sons are all involved in the winery operations, which are focused primarily on the indigenous grapes of the Etna region—Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante, and Catarratto.
