Pierre Prieur & Fils

Sancerre, Loire • France

Having farmed the prestigious Sancerre sites Les Monts Damnés, Chêne Marchand, and Les Bouffants for 11 generations, the Prieur family is clearly rooted in the Central Loire. Led by brothers Bruno and Thierry, the family farms 15 hectares of vines, 12 in Sauvignon Blanc and three in Pinot Noir. They have vines in the three distinct terroirs of Sancerre: Terres Blanches, Caillotes, and Silex.

These different terroirs are blended into the Domaine de Saint Pierre cuvée, with distinct bottlings of each different terroir offered as well. The work in the vineyards is in organic conversion and done to the French high environmental value (HEV) standard—which is to say, sustainable with a distinct focus on biodiversity. Harvest is done by hand. Vinification is gentle and noninterventionist. The resulting wines are true to the varied terroirs of the region.
