Bodegas Valdespino was founded in 1264 by Don Alfonso Valdespino. In 1999, it was incorporated into the large wine and spirits company Grupo Estevez. The goal of the winery is to use all the possible resources of the company to make some of the finest, most distinctive and artisanal Sherries on the market.
The heart and soul of Valdespino is its vineyards, particularly the high-altitude Macharnudo Alto vineyard. Valdespino owns 56 hectares in this great historical site, and from it they have been making single-vineyard Sherries since at least the middle of the nineteenth century.
All Valdespino Sherries are barrel-fermented in old oak and are given much longer solera-system aging than the laws require. The Fino Inocente, for example, in addition to coming exclusively from the Macharnudo Alto vineyard, sees a full 10 years of solera aging under flor. Valdespino is one of the last Sherry producers using only wood, and one of only a handful that still use the solera system. An ageless classic, Valdespino keeps the best of the past alive.
